A slight change of pace for me over the next few days as Hellboy isnt shooting and I'll be doing some different make ups....unfortunately the different make ups require 6 hours to apply and I'm facing make up calls of one in the morning....eeeek!!!!.....how I so regret those casual words: 'sure....I'm happy to do anything needed.....' (curse my English politeness!!).
The biggest problem isn't the getting up or the 6 hours application time....I enjoy my work and so that's the fun bit (though a more civilised call time would have been appreciated)...the big problem comes when the rest of the film unit starts working. You see once a make up is applied there is very little to do all day other than maintenance and touch ups...which basically means sitting in a corner trying to stay awake for the next 12 to 15 hours, jumping up and looking 'on the ball' when they call for 'last checks' before each take ( this usually involves walking up to your actor, peering at him intently and trying not to yawn in his face...if your lucky you might have to apply a little make up or re glue a lifting edge).
Of course when your new to the job just being on set is exciting...but trust me on this, it soon wears off as the realisation that film making is one of mankinds SLOWEST artforms and that watching even the most brilliant actor repeating the same two lines for 12 hours is pretty much akin to watching paint dry!!
MOre exciting news (for me anyway) is that I've just got tickets to see Nine Inch Nails, Tool and the Chemical Brothers at Hungary's Sziget Festival....yay!!!!.....so if you happen to be in Budapest at those gigs and spot a little green haired guy trying to oreder a beer in bad Hungarian...try saying 'hi' cos it might be me!!!
I have little more news of Jan and his eye...other than he CAN see out of it...though not very well....I'll give more news when I get it.
