Back in 2000 Bob Keen (of Hellraiser fame) was hired to develop a video game sequel to John Carpenter's movie The Thing.

Bob came up with a truly great story line that was both prequel and sequel to the movie and brought in myself to do creature concepts and my long time buddy Mat O'Toole to do character design.

Still to this day I don't know what really happened....I kinda suspect our ideas and designs were just to expensive or difficult to turn into a feasible game....but about 3 months into the project we all found ourselves 'replaced'. No one actually said it in so many words but I suspect we were all fired!!....lol...I'm happy to say that for all 3 of us it's the only time that's ever happened!!

This was one of my designs for the final incarnation of the Thing at the end of the game.
When I saw how simple the design was that they eventually used I started to realize how almost impossible it would have been to turn my stuff into workable pixel characters....oh well!!

They could make a monster like this today tho... and it would be awesome^^

Cool, the movie is, in my opinion, one of the best body horror movies ever made.

A classic.

Well in a few short years the technology is here and I am positive they could use it and to tell the truth, most likely kicking themselves for not even attempting it back than. Awesome design I think I like this the best of them all. The dishumanoid figure really creates the idea of 'thing' in my mind. like... "What the HELL is this THING?" L()L Well done.

It certainly is.....they made the game instead of a sequel...a good thing in my opinion since the first movie did it all!!!!

I've played the Thing game that did get made, and it definitely gives the impression that they rushed it out and the monsters were not as cool as yours. :-)

I think the tenntacles would have been the biggest issue. Because of how the locomotion and pgysics the monster would have to do. I bet it was the complexity; but I'm surprised someone didn't just come in and say, "You've got great drawings I just need to you to make the cncepts a little more simple."

I played the game as well and quite enjoyed it....but it was not the game we wanted to make, it was all pretty much formula gamep[lay and storyline....
