Back in 2000 Bob Keen (of Hellraiser fame) was hired to develop a video game sequel to John Carpenter's movie The Thing.

Bob came up with a truly great story line that was both prequel and sequel to the movie and brought in myself to do creature concepts and my long time buddy Mat O'Toole to do character design.

Still to this day I don't know what really happened....I kinda suspect our ideas and designs were just to expensive or difficult to turn into a feasible game....but about 3 months into the project we all found ourselves 'replaced'. No one actually said it in so many words but I suspect we were all fired!!....lol...I'm happy to say that for all 3 of us it's the only time that's ever happened!!

These are some of the many drawings I did of the many Thing manifestations and the alien creatures it has absorbed throughout it's life time!

wow, its a shame though. Also if you think about it, back in 2000 the video game industry lacked the technology to do these designs any justice. The textures would have been awful.

Now days, it wouldn't be that hard. Maybe they should re-visit the idea.

The THING in the upper right reminds me of that creature in Diablo 2. Maybe Blizzard is watching you.

I'm not familiar with either Diablo 2 or Blizzard so can't really comment....don't rule out simple coincidence though, it happens a lot in art and design.

Awesome work! I just bought a copy of the original movie DVD recently. This reminds me a bit (superficially) of the designs they did for it. But even awesome-r, of course... :D
