New Ink by Kaduflyer New Ink by Kaduflyer
I think I'm the wrong generation for 'the selfie'….I really can't seem to get them right!
As always I look like I'm spoiling for a fight in photos (even when I'm the one taking the photo!) when in reality I'm quite a jolly sorta guy! Anyway this is my new sleeve by the very talented Tomas Tomas of Into You Tattoos…about 18 hours so far! Eventually this will go over my chest and neck and down my other arm to the elbow.

I went to a gig a few months back and a girl there said the same thing….I do like his music so maybe his look has filtered through!!

Intense tattoo. All the way to the other arm hey? You will have to show that off!
When I saw the thumbnail for this pic I thought for sure you were Henry Rollins!

Henry Rollins?....lol....well that's a comparison I can live with....though I fear it's an illusion of the photo, I really look nothing like him in real life I'm sure. Cool guy though!

Wow. Impressive. I don't think I could sit still for something like that. Also, the fact that I'm pushing 50 may have something to do with it. Next time you try a selfie, relax a little. Maybe try a little bit of a smile... nothing too fancy. A Mona Lisa mysterious one would work. :XD:

Age is no restriction on getting tattooed…if you want one go for it. And the sitting still is really no problem…we relax, put on some music and chat away for four hours at a time…it's fun.

I hate having my photograph taken at the best of times, but when I smile for them it just turns into a horrible grimacing rictus and I look like some sort of special needs guy out on a day trip!

Actually, the sitting still for anything without falling asleep is potentially a problem. *snerk*  I used to fall asleep in class in college if I didn't move around. Really embarrassing when there's only three students in a class....

I did have an idea for a tattoo design years ago, but never got around to doing it. Also, I really can't afford to get one. And I'd rather spend my money on books, magazines and yarn.

Haha…you'd have to have a very high pain threshold to fall asleep during a long tattoo session…it's not exactly comfortable!

Tattoos are expensive which is why I always urge people to think carefully and choose their artist wisely. I can't argue with the 'tattoo or books' thing…but when you have some spare cash give it some consideration and maybe give it a go. You only live once and your body is the last place nanny state authorities can meddle so enjoy that freedom to do what you will with it!

Well, I am considering something foolish for my 50th birthday.... Comic-Con!!!!! Actually, it's after my birthday, but I do consider it something exceptionally cool to do for the Big 5-0! Just gotta get the money saved up to be able to go. So far... I have $45!!!! Good thing I don't hit 50 until 2015, right?

Is that San Diego CC or New York? I've been to the New York one, but everyone tells me it's San Diego that will blow my sox off! Whichever you go to I agree that it's a cool way to spend the 5-0…as a man who won't be seeing 50 again (yup…I'm way older than I look!) I thoroughly approve of such behaviour.

You're not going to get much for $45….at least not from a reputable artist…so keep piling the pennies up!!

I'm thinking San Diego. Might as well go full tilt, eh?

As for your age... do you have a painting in the attic a la Dorian Gray?

Well, my savings plan is thus: I started in December with just a dollar. The next week I put in $2. The third week, $3... and so forth. By the end of 52 weeks I'll have almost $1400. The hard part is going to be when I get to the weeks numbered in the 30s, 40s & 50s! But I'll still have quite a bit of cash set aside by then.

That's the one I desperately want to go to…I have a friend who's a comic nut and now married to an American lass and living in the USA…I have an open invite to come visit, so maybe I'll take them up on it and see you there!

Haha….no Dorian Grey-esque picture no! I make rubber monsters for a living and paint pictures of faeries in my spare time…it's impossible to get old doing silly stuff like that! and so most people in my industry seem way younger than they really are. I can't even put it down to clean living since I've been grossly guilty of the total opposite of that for much of my life…maybe I'm pickled?

That's a really cool idea for saving…but yeah…I can see how some of the later weeks are going to be pretty painful!

How are you planning to do the other sleeve? You've already it a few tats there? Are you just going to go around them?

The rest of the tattoo will go over my upper chest and neck and down to my elbow on the other arm, gradually becoming more fluid and organic so as to match the existing half sleeve I have. The band around my upper arm I got when I was a teenager (and just wanted ANY tattoo!) and will be inked over as I really don't like it any more.

Oh Kool, like the idea of transitioning from angular geometric designs to a more fluid one and organic one, will the tradition take place on the chest and neck?

I'm not entirely sure where the transition will occur….that's something we'll have to work out when work starts again on it in May. I'm thinking somewhere on the chest but my tattooist is very much his own man and maybe he has his own ideas…it's part of the fun of having someone like him work on you!

Have your own reailty show, the bad ass monster maker. Where you apply a make-up to someone's face with only a baseball bat. Del Toro shows you a design in his diary, you take it and wipe you ass with in, place it in his hands then knock him out. Screaming "I'm the bad ass monster maker ! I worked on Dog Soilders !"

Really spectacular work; I love the symmetry across the bent elbow. It's so clean and geometric and rhythmical. Nothing wrong with this selfie. It says everything that needs to be said. And damn, but you're gorgeous! (Now I sound like a creepy stalker. meh.)

The way the pattern joins as I bend my arm always impresses people....as it did me when I first found out what he'd done......but it's the way the whole thing writhes and flows as I move my arm that's really cool......he's a brilliant artist.
In most photos I look kinda dorky...I seem to be always pulling odd faces...lol....so I think this one was a lucky accident...but thank you for the lovely compliment anyway.

Impressively clean edges; wasn't expecting such a bold design for a sculptor who specializes in delicate details but it looks good. What was the influence for the design of this sleeve?
Yeah, you do look like a street fighter for an action film.
