Dr Who - The Crooked Man - Sculpt and painted suit by Kaduflyer Dr Who - The Crooked Man - Sculpt and painted suit by Kaduflyer
Free flowing organic, boney shapes are just a joy to sculpt...so when people come over and go "ugh...that's horrible!" I'm like "Oh??...is it?...I didn't notice!"

The creature was sometimes referred to as 'the hider in the woods' so I knew his colouring would have to blend into his surroundings, but I didn't want to do an obvious 'tree dude' paint job. I was pretty pleased with the end result which was both organic and yet (at least I though so) 'other worldly'

When he wrestles the Dr to the ground an eye was supposed to open up in his chest. I built an eye and a chest section for this scene but it was never used...you can however still see in picture 6 the closed eye that was always present in the suit.

I loved that turn around in the story...it was so refreshing after all the aliens out to simply destroy, dominate and rule!!!

Gorgeous sculpt! I had no idea I knew the person- well, know here on DA any way- behind that piece! Very effective and never looked the same from one shot to the next! Amazing and prof that ground/practical effects are still, in my humble and lay opinion, the best!

I think that given the right director these kind of creature suits are always more effective than CGI, their limitations force inventiveness that is missing from their digital counterparts....but you must, as I said have the right kind of director and fortunately for this episode we had a brilliant one!

Such a fantastic design! The way it was shot (reversing & removing frames) gave it an especially creepy feel as well. Personally I didn't like the whole 'It's a love story!' aspect of this episode because neither part of the idea (the ghost part or the romance part) was really given enough time to 'work' in its own right, but I truly LOVED this guy. Had the episode been maybe 10 minutes longer and properly developed the love & horror elements of the story I think this would've been my favourite of series 7... not a reflection on you of course, truly an awesome sculpt & paint job! God you have an awesome job :D

As always the script went through many changes, some I liked, some I didn't...but I actually liked the switch from horror to love story.

The teeth are the ones destists use to colour match fake teeth, caps, veneers etc to a patients real teeth...they add a degree of realism that can't be bettered.
